ZOMER by Dorit Weintal & Faido Company
In the dance/musical theatre performance ZOMER, Dorit questions our notion of certainties:
'What is that space/state of in-betweenness?'
'what is my footing in an environment that is constantly changing?'
The performance is inspired by the impact of the pandemic on our lives right now.
In a state of unease the dancers, the singer and the musician enter unknown territory and find themselves in a delicate balance with the permanent risk of failure.
The principles of the Baroque (dance and music) form an important starting point to express the transience of the senses and the chaos of fragmentation.
The music, based on "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi, is newly composed for this production by Simone Giacomini, incorporating influences from the Middle East, early polyphonic choral music, electronic music, Spoken Word and elements from opera.

Dorit Weintal is a choreographer and dancer based in Amsterdam, and artistic director of Faido Company & Stichting Dofai. Her work deals with human consciousness, identity and social engagement. She investigates this through dance productions, art films, video installations and poetry. Space, physicality, storytelling and film technologies are treated as symbolic tools to create a critical approach to the human condition.

In de dans/muziektheatervoorstelling ZOMER bevraagt Dorit onze notie van zekerheden:
"Wat is mijn houvast in een omgeving die voortdurend verandert?
In een staat van onbehagen begeven de dansers, de zangeres en de muzikant zich op onbekend terrein en bevinden zich in een wankel evenwicht met het permanente risico op mislukking.
Visueel en auditief vormen de principes van de barok, waarin alle disciplines worden behandeld als instrumenten om de vergankelijkheid van de zintuigen en de chaos van de fragmentatie tot uitdrukking te brengen, een belangrijk uitgangspunt.
De muziek, gebaseerd op "De Vier Jaargetijden" van Antonio Vivaldi, wordt voor deze productie nieuw gecomponeerd door Simone Giacomini, met invloeden uit het Midden-Oosten, vroege polyfone koormuziek, elektronische muziek, Spoken Word en elementen uit de opera.

Dorit Weintal is choreografe en danseres, gevestigd in Amsterdam, en artistiek directeur van Faido Company & Stichting Dofai. Haar werk gaat over het menselijk bewustzijn, identiteit en sociaal engagement. Ze onderzoekt dit door middel van dansproducties, kunstfilms, video-installaties en poëzie. Ruimte, lichamelijkheid, het vertellen van verhalen en filmtechnologieën worden behandeld als symbolische instrumenten om een kritische benadering van de menselijke conditie te creëren.
