Look back // Sat June 18, 2022 // EAST& Oranje-Vrijstaatplein

On Saturday June 18, EAST&, the new pop-up culture center in Amsterdam East, hosted a program for local residents on Oranje-Vrijstaatplein!

For children of all ages and their parents/caretakers, Framer Framed offered a workshop Papel Largo - drawing big after nature with Brazilian artist Bruno Filho. Outside on the public square were performances by spoken word poets from Poetry Circle Nowhere, stand-up comedy, singer-songwriters and a whirligig for the little ones. The square was freely accessible and the entire neighborhood from all ages were welcome.

The square was to be dominated by music, spoken word and comedy. Under the name Mushroom Mosis, songwriter and vocalist Damani has been making music since 2014. He recently released his second EP 'The Wellspring' with soulful and personal songs about the changing life of the past two years. Where brother and sister Cheyenne Toney & Guillano Herdigein are, they put a smile on the faces. They were born on stage and so making music is like breathing for these two. They recently made their first musical theater performance and take the audience into their compelling vibe. Spoken become artist Lin An Phoa is a writer, linguist and teacher of Dutch for people with other mother tongues. Her work questions social expectations regarding femininity and identity in particular. In her lyrics she searches for connection and softening, with the body as the narrator. Hasan Gök is a spoken word artist and nocturnal animal who likes to write about just about all human emotions. He is inspired by the metaphorical nature of the Turkish language and fuses words to come closest to his feeling. Robbie Wallin is an actor, theater maker and comedian.

In his solo BAKFIETS, with which he made his debut as a soloist in 2021, he talks about how Amsterdam is changing. Robbie combines elements of stand-up comedy and storytelling and will host this afternoon.

EAST& is the new pop-up culture center in Amsterdam-East where collaboration is central and connections are made between local residents and the many talented and diverse makers in the district. On June 18, collaboration will take place by:

PLEIN THEATER & DE RODE LOPER OP SCHOOL & FRAMER FRAMED & NOWHERE & MOVING ARTS PROJECT
