Inertia // Slow down

Life is different with COVID-19. Our body slows down, while our thoughts accelerate, enhanced by the digitization around us. Skin hunger is opposed to fear of contact. Scientific studies are at odds with each other. Conspiracy theories create division. There remains nothing more than the need to embody the present.

Five makers / performers engage in a physical / mental process in an attempt to understand how our feelings and thoughts manifest in the body. In a series of five live streams through a viewing box - the PLEIN THEATER in Amsterdam East, the viewer can peek in “under the skin of the performer”. What you see are poetic, intimate, fragile and powerful images of the individual; varied, confrontational, moving and enlightening. An "Unspoken" message for the viewer at home. We end with a live online discussion about the role of the body during COVID-19.

Since the lockdown, we have been living with ignorance and often even existential uncertainty. The virus not only has an impact on our physical health, but it also sneaks under our skin with its consequences: feelings seem more extreme - like a magnifying glass of every reaction; conciliatory or confrontational. A wave of comfort, encouragement, isolation, fear, connection and confrontation. The possibility of fleeing from this wave-like situation is virtually nil. Do you face confrontation, do you feel powerless, do you become scared or more combative? Does your experience of time and space change? What do you hold on to? Do you share this under-the-skin feeling with those who live with you, with your neighbors?

Unconsciously, this physical limitation affects our movement and thinking and perhaps offers space for transformation. Are we able to embrace this time? And ... how do you proceed next? Questions that lead to reflection and the need to embody this present time and to communicate. The process eventually leads to a meeting in the public space of Amsterdam, captured in film, to confront the viewer with struggle, freedom, courage and comfort.
